Mrs. Karen Anne Kopacz Hauer, age 53, of Birmingham, AL, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012. She was born in Passaic, NJ, lived in Lyndhurst, NJ, and educated at St. Michael's Catholic School. She graduated from Lyndhurst High School in 1976, Scranton University in PA in 1980, and Rutgers University in 1982 with Bachelors in Nursing and a Master's in 1984. She held various positions in nursing; most recently was the school nurse at Indian Springs School. She was a Girl Scout Leader and recipient of the Elizabeth Seaton Award from the Birmingham Diocese. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover, and served as a PTO member at Prince of Peace Catholic School. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kendra Hauer, in March 2004. She is survived by her husband, of 17 years, Dave Hauer, of Hoover, a daughter, Alanna Hauer, of Hoover, her parents, Joe and Betty Kopacz of Normandy Beach, NJ, a brother, Kenneth Kopacz, MD (Marybeth), of Chatham, NJ, a niece, Kira Kopacz, and nephew, Kyle Kopacz, of Chatham, NJ. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 4, 2012, from 8-10 AM at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM with Father John Fallon and Father Henry McDaid officiating. Entombment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to UAB Cancer Research or Prince of Peace Catholic Church Building Fund.
