The family also lived in Florence, Alabama, before returning to Birmingham in 1959. She was active in civic causes and also with her alma mater, Samford University, serving on the advisory board of the Howard College of Arts and Sciences, and as a past president of the Samford University Auxiliary. She was a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church for almost 50 years, where she taught the Joy Sunday School class for 20 years. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, at the Shades Mountain Baptist Church Worship Center, in Vestavia Hills. A memorial service will follow on the same day at 1:30 p.m., also at the worship center at Shades Mountain, Danny Wood and Charles T. Carter officiating. Burial and graveside service for the family will be held at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens in Hoover. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Evan, Taylor, Alan, and Stephen Baggett; and nephews, Jeff Baggett of Atlanta; Brian Slaughter of Wetumpka; and Paul Cabri of Cullman. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Hudson D. and June Stewart Baggett Scholarship at Samford University; or to the Samford University Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship (both scholarships at 800 Lakeshore Drive, Birmingham, AL 35229); or to Shades Mountain Baptist Church.
