Judith Gayle Dobyns

On Friday, April 7, 2023, Judith Gayle Barbour Dobyns departed this life for her eternal home. Judy was born on September 13, 1941, in Ashland, KY, to Maurice and Jewell Barbour.  She was married to her loving husband Clifford Nolan Dobyns for 57 years until his passing in 2016.  She was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church where she was the preschool coordinator from 1980-1992.  She also attended The Church at Brook Hills and cared for the babies during Mother’s Day Out.  She loved children and spent many years caring for the children of some very special families, making her a surrogate Mother and Grandmother to so many.  She was an active participant in her neighborhood, church, and community.  She enjoyed watching University of Kentucky basketball games, spending time with family and friends, and sharing her faith.  Also, the preserving of memories for others with her scrapbooking brought her great pleasure.    She is survived by; her brother David Brooks Barbour (Lisah), her three children; David (Deidre), Lisa, and Paul (Barbara), and her grandson Tanner Barksdale.  As well as many “bonus” children Ernie Dease (Chris) and their children, Bill Howerton (Cindy) and their children, Amanda Overby (Walter) and her children, Tom Boston (Sheri) and their children.

A private burial for the family will be held at the Alabama National Cemetery on Thursday, April 13th. A memorial Celebration will be held for friends and family at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, on Sunday, April 16^th.  Open visitation will begin at 2:00PM with a Celebration of Life at 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers charitable contributions can be made to Time's Out, Inc. at 1113 Winward Lane, Vestavia Hills, AL  35216 or at www.timesout.org.
