Curtis, Judith Shaw, 88, resident of Hoover, AL, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024.
Mrs. Curtis was born in Warrior, Alabama, on June 20, 1936. She graduated high school in 1954 from the prestigious Mrs. Howard’s School for Girls in Birmingham where she was the valedictorian of her class. She then attended the University of Alabama and later graduated Magna Cum Laude from Birmingham Southern College with a degree in Computer Science. Throughout her career as a computer programmer, she worked for Birmingham Southern, the City of Birmingham, and retired from U.S. Pipe.
Mrs. Curtis was an accomplished pianist who loved reading, dancing, and sewing. Additionally, she had a life-long affection for Japanese culture after spending the summer of 1984 in Kyoto and Tokyo. She loved her blonde hair, big sunglasses, and will always be remembered as one-of-a-kind.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 10am with a graveside service at 11am at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Hwy 150 in Hoover. Mrs. Curtis was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Bruce Shaw, and Juanita Shaw. She is survived by her son, Dr. John Dory Curtis (Jane); and her daughter, Katy Curtis Olienyk (Ron); four grandchildren, Chris Curtis, Andrew Edwards, Dr. Caitlin Curtis Crocker (Noah), Hannah Bednarski (John); and her brother, Bruce Shaw. Pallbearers will be Dr. John Dory Curtis, Chris Curtis, Andrew Edwards, Ron Olienyk, James Jackson, and Ron Williamson
