Jude Nicolas Raia, 20, born December 22, 2001 in Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on October 31, 2022. Jude was a student at the University of Alabama studying History on the pre-law track. He had experience shadowing physicians, volunteering and working in healthcare settings. He was interested in working in corporate law or International Law as he was fluent in German.
Jude was a University of Alabama Resident Advisor, where he was a Certified Peer Educator. He also Worked as a Paralegal Assistant for Cahaba Land Title and Escrow. Jude enjoyed his time working as an Intern for Graffeo Law, LLC.
Jude worked at Bibb Medical Center and Performed general clerical work around the hospital with a focus on COVID-19 protocols. Where he was loved by all he came in contact with.
Jude also studied at McCallie school in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he graduated high school. He conducted research during his time at McCallie, where he found glial cells in a moon jellyfish. He presented this research at science fairs and represented his school with honor, under the tutelage of Dr. Karah Nazor. Jude was awarded a Patent for the “Method for the Cultivation of Glial Cells”. Jude was also on the Varsity Rowing Team and cultivated an Urban Garden from which he donated his crops to the local Chattanooga Food Bank. While at McCallie Jude was given the very high honor of The Award for Residential Life and National Honor Society. He was a summer camp counselor for two years at McCallie Sports Camp.
Jude was a student at The University of Alabama from May 2020 until the time of his passing.
Jude had a zest for life that was unparalleled. He was a loyal confidant and friend to so many. A smile that lit up the room and a personality to go along with it.
Jude was Preceded in death by his grandfather, Jack A. Raia.
Left to cherish Jude’s memory include his Parents, Jack David Raia and Gena Michele Raia; sister, Isabella A. Raia; grandmothers, Antoinette P. Raia and Delilah Cole-Belcher; Grandfather, Brent Belcher; aunt, Lauren Belcher Goode; Uncle Robert Reese Goode; girlfriend, Kate Craft; as well as numerous members of his extended family and friends.
Rosary will be held Monday, November 7, 2022 at Our Lady of The Valley Catholic Church from 6:00-6:15 PM, with visitation to follow from 6:15-7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 10:00AM at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.
