Joyce Grill

October 11, 1930 — January 25, 2024

Joyce B. Grill, age 93, of Alabaster, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 25, 2024. She was born on October 11, 1930, in Bibb County, AL. She resided there until after finishing high school. She then relocated to Birmingham, AL, where she worked at Crippled Children's Hospital, now known as Children's of Alabama.

She was married to her loving husband, Joseph W. Grill for 66 years, who preceded her in death in January 2017. She is also preceded in death by her parents James William Burdett and Bertha Hamaker Burdett, as well as three sisters Shelvie Jean Burdett, Ada Burdett Hudson, and Lou Ella Burdett Moody.

Joyce is survived by four children and their spouses: Randal W. Grill (Cathy), Sandra Beans (Mel), Karen Reeves (Colby) and Joseph David Grill (Michelle). Joyce was blessed with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. All of them were her pride and joy. She is also survived by three brothers Doyle, Ed, and Kenneth Burdett.

Joyce loved the Lord with her whole heart and found such great joy in attending and supporting her church. She has been a member of First United Methodist Church of Alabaster since 1968. Through the church, she used her spiritual gift of service for those needing support. She was always ready to provide a meal for anyone needing food. Her focus, even in her declining health, has been the day she would be in the presence of Jesus. We have great comfort knowing she is now with Jesus, her beloved Joe and her precious mother. This is a time she has been looking forward to.

Joyce was always happy to have you join her and Joe for a southern meal. She was a wonderful cook. It brought her great joy to have her family home to share a meal, especially on the holidays. The children always left her house with a "goodie bag", no matter the day or season.

Joyce loved Auburn University and was huge fan of all things Auburn. She was so proud to say Joe was an Auburn graduate. In her mind, it was Auburn University that opened doors for Joe to have a successful career as an electrical engineer. This in turn allowed them, as parents, to provide their children with a wonderful loving home. .

A private burial service will be held, at Alabama National Cemetery.

We thank the caregivers at Hatley Health Care for taking such good care of our mother for the past seven years. Also, a thank you to Southern Comfort Hospice, for the comfort provided to her in her last hours.
