Joyce Bailey

Mrs. Joyce Waits Bailey, of Cullman, was born on December 12, 1929, in Birmingham. She entered Heaven's gates on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 after a recent illness at Cullman Regional Medical Center. Joyce grew up in Birmingham and attended Berney Points Baptist Church when she was young. She was united in marriage to Curtis E. Bailey, Sr. in 1948. They were married for 57 blissful years, and during that time she was his devoted and loving caregiver due to a prolonged illness. He preceded her in death in March of 2005. Joyce was retired from Baptist Health Systems Montclair, after 37 years of dedicated service. Her strong Christian faith and devotion to her family were her life's foundation. At the age of 35 years old she was saved while attending Philadelphia Baptist Church in Cahaba Heights. Her son "Scooter" also was saved the same day, and they had the blessing of being together during the same Ceremony of Baptism. Joyce (Nanna) was an amazingly strong woman with a great sense of humor who really loved to laugh. She willingly opened up her home and her heart to family and friends many times over the course of her life. She loved to lead by example and was truly a remarkable example of Motherly Christian love to all of those who will miss her smiling face and loving spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Curt Bailey; her sons, Curtis E. "Scooter" Bailey, Jr. and Barry N. Bailey; her grandson, Brandon A. Bailey; 3 sisters; 1 brother; and many other loved family members.
Joyce (Mama and Nanna) is survived by her devoted son, Greg Bailey (Debbie); her daughter-in-love, Kim Bailey; 3 wonderful grandsons, Eric Bailey (Christy), Sawyer Bailey, and Braxton Bailey; also by her only granddaughter Katelyn Bailey; step grandchildren, Austin Townley and Carissa Nelson; great grandsons, Mason Bailey and Brock Wise. She also was blessed with a large host of caring and loving family and friends who will greatly miss her wonderful spirit.
The family will receive friends from Saturday, 12-2, July 19, 2014, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150 in Hoover. Funeral service will follow at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel, Bro. Steton Hayes officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY 10163 in memory of Curt and Joyce Bailey.
