Jovan Pjeshkazini, 80, passed away on April 20, 2024 in Hoover, AL.
Jovan was born on January 22, 1944 to parents Prokop and Leonora Pjeshkazini in Tirana, Albania. After graduating high school, Jovan completed two years of military service for his country and then attended university to study economics.
His career was spent leading the Ministry of Finance for the Albanian government until his retirement in 2004.
In 1975, Jovan met Valentina Qiriaqi who he married in 1977 in Albania. They had one child, Mirela, who moved to America in 1996 as a high school exchange student, and to Alabama in 1998. Jovan spent much of the last 20 years living part-time in Hoover, AL with his daughter and her family. He was thrilled to become a US citizen in 2013.
Jovan's favorite passion was Italian soccer, specifically AC Milan. He also loved travelling both Europe and America, gardening, and reading, and kept a sharp mind his full life. He was known for his kind heart, generosity to help others, and easy-going joyful demeanor.
He is predeceased by his father Prokop and mother Leonora, and brother Ciku. He is survived by his wife Valentina, daughter Mirela Elliott (married to Kevin Elliott), grandsons Sam and Aleks Elliott, and his brother, Jorgji.
A visitation service will be held at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover on April 23 at 1:00pm with a family gravesite service to follow.
