Mr. Joshua Rowan Oden, passed away peacefully on March 27,2013 at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by grandparents Grace Lovelace Mason and Dr. James Monroe Mason, Eliza Haney Oden and Joshua Webb Oden and parents Augusta Mason Oden and Joshua Rowan Oden. Survivors include his wife Frantiska Spaulding Oden, daughters Frantizska Oden Campos (Frank) Birmingham, Amanda Claiborne Oden, Myrtle Beach, S.C., grandchildren Madeleine Corliss, Andover, MA, SPC. Colin Campos, U.S. Army NG now serving in Afghanistan, and sister Lovelace Oden Howard (Tom), Manchester, MA. Born on September 3, 1928, Birmingham, AL, Josh attended Ramsey High School, Birmingham and graduated from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD where he belonged to Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After graduation he attended The U.S. Naval Officer's Candidate School, Newport, RI. Following graduation, he served in Japan and Korea as a Lieutenant JG in the US Naval Air Intelligence. Upon return to Birmingham, he served as President of Malone Freight Lines and President of Alabama Mineral Land Co. Josh was a pilot, an excellent marksman and a member of ROTC Scabbard and Blade team for rifle excellency at Johns Hopkins. He was the first president of the Birmingham Council of Camp Fire, Inc., a member and former president of the Redstone Club, a former member of the Rotary and a former member of Mountain Brook Country Club. Graveside service will be Monday, April 1, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery with Dr. Sterling Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends at 10 a. m. at Elmwood Chapel.
