Joseph Robertson

Robertson, Lt. Col. Joseph G. (retired), 90 years of age passed away Sunday, August 8, 2015, a resident of Hoover, Al. formerly of Montgomery, Al. He was born May 10, 1925 in Birmingham, Alabama, to Otto L. and Amy Elizabeth Robertson who are deceased. He was a loving Father, Grandfather, Husband and Friend.
Joe Robertson was a graduate of the University of Alabama where he and Governor John Patterson were roommates and member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He attended U.S.M.A. at West Point and the Citadel in Charleston, S.C. He is a retired Lt. Colonel, USAF, having served during WWII and Korean Conflict.
In 1954 General "Crack" Hanna, Adjutant General of the Alabama National Guard ordered then Captain Robertson to Active Duty. He was the first National Guard Officer assigned to Phenix City, Alabama after the assassination of Attorney General Elect, Albert Patterson. He had the distinction of being the first and last National Guard Officer to serve in Phenix City, Alabama during the only time Martial Law was ever declared in Alabama. He remained as body guard and travel companion to Attorney General Elect, John Patterson and moved to Montgomery in January 1955.
Robertson was Executive Assistant to John Patterson, State Attorney General 1955-1959 and Chief of Staff to Governor John Patterson 1959-1963. He was Executive Secretary of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants from 1972 until he retired in 1987.
He is survived by his wife Louise Moore Robertson. He is survived by daughter, Joyce Christine Rogers, of Phenix City, Al, (children John and Joshua). Sons, Joseph B. (Leslie) of Columbus, Ga (children Anne and Amy) and John L. (Karen) of Auburn, Al (children Lauren & Corey). Step-daughters Debra Jo Linton of Hoover, Al, Melissa (Dennis) Stephens (children Lani Rae and Sam) of Gardendale, Al and Step-son George (Debra Ann) Linton (children Alexandria and Michael) of Fairhope, Al. Visitation will be at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Hwy 150 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Graveside services will be at Elmwood Cemetery at 10 AM on Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Profetto of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Hoover Alabama.
The family request donations be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 6555 Cahaba Valley Road, Birmingham, AL 35242.
