Joseph P. McCormick, of Hoover, AL, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015, at the age of 75. Joe was born September 12, 1939 and grew up in Johnson City TN. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. While in school he met Pat who became the love of his life. After finishing college, he and Pat married and he then served his country in the US Army Corps of Engineers. He achieved the rank of Captain. He began his civilian career with Harbert Construction Corporation in Birmingham in 1969. After an eighteen year career with Harbert, he and partners purchased H&F Construction Company and were also involved in other business ventures together, including AMH Investments and Southern States equipment sales.
In retirement, he and Pat traveled frequently and also loved to spend time at the beach. He enjoyed being outside and working in his yard. He loved his family, and was devoted to taking care of them in every way. Mostly, he simply loved being with his wife, Pat, and they were always together.
Joe loved the Lord with all his heart. His faith was very strong and he was a role model of Christian discipleship to everyone around him. He and Pat have been active members of Shades Mountain Independent Church for the last 26 years.
He is preceded in death by his father Joseph P McCormick, Sr. and his mother Lora DeVault McCormick, of Johnson City, TN.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia A. McCormick, son, Todd McCormick (Lisa), daughter, Beth McCormick, grandchildren, Kaitlyn B. Scott, Joseph Pierson McCormick II, Madeline E. McCormick, and sister, Helen Gray (Bernie) of Johnson City, TN. Joe leaves behind other family members and many dear friends that loved him and will cherish his memory.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at Brookwood Hospital for the extraordinary level of care, compassion, and personal attention that they provided to Joe and to the family during this illness. And also a heartfelt thanks to his caregiver, Keyon Woods, for the loving care she provided.
Visitation will be at Shades Mountain Independent Church, Thursday, August 13, 2015 from 10-11 AM with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South, in Hoover.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, www.lls.org.
