of Hoover, AL , passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at the age of 84. He was a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church for almost 40 years. He was retired from the US Army as a Lt. Colonel, and a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, two overseas bars, Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and Legion of Merit. He served two tours of duty in Germany, one in Vietnam and one in the Pentagon.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Kennington, two sons, Ray Kennington, and Jay Kennington (Cindy), a daughter, Kay Burns (Steve), six grandchildren, Kaysey Faulkner (Jonathan), Erin Vogt (Jason), T. J., Davis, John and Jarrod Kennington, a great grandson, August Ray Faulkner, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 28, 2014, from 10-11 AM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM at the funeral home with Dr. Charles Carter and Dr. Danny Wood officiating. Interment will be at Alabama National Cemetery at 1:15 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association or Shades Mountain Baptist-Chapters.
