John Whit Hargett

John Whit Hargett of Birmingham, AL passed away on March 2nd at the age of 88. He was born in Harris County, GA and was the fifth of seven children born to the late Hoke S and Mable B Hargett. John worked for Georgia Power & Southern Company for a total of 35 years. He is the past master of Helena Masonic Lodge and a 32°Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason as well as a Shriner. His hobby and passion was fishing which led him to over 20 years of trips to Alaska with some of his closest friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae; his father; mother; three brothers; and two sisters.

He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Mason Macomber of Huntsville, and Norma Jean Bascovsky of Oakdale, PA; three grandchildren, Amanda Brooks, John & Sharon Bascovsky; three great-grandchildren, Danielle Blake, Nicholas Goodbread and Jessica Bascovsky, and sister Carol Burns of Cape Canaveral, FL.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 9th at Currie Jefferson Funeral Home for visitation from 11-1:00 CST with services in the chapel at 1:00 and burial to follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
