John Wesley Day, of Pelham, AL, debuted in Birmingham, AL on November 23, 1981. He made his final stand against cancer on March 26, 2020. He was 38 years old. This world could not contain him. He was a lover of life, a lover of people, and a conveyor of beauty. His words were the lyrics and his living the music. Wes experienced an abundant life and shared various drafts of himself with the world: son, grandson, brother, cousin, friend, skateboarder, airman, student, songwriter, salesman, podcaster, performer, husband, and stepfather. His final draft as husband and stepfather was his finest.
Wes is preceded in death by his grandmother, Barbara Hicks, and his grandfather, Dr. Jim Day, Sr. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jerri Herring Day; his two beloved stepsons, Pete Marvin and Lance Gilbert; his fur baby, Lucy; his adoring parents, Dr. and Mrs. Jim and Cynthia Day; and his sister, Crystal Day Dickerson, brother-in-law Jeff Dickerson, niece Ella Dickerson, and nephew Eli Dickerson. In addition to these, Wes lives on in the memories of many devoted aunts, uncles, cousins, and talented friends who all loved him. In a sometimes too heavy world, his quick wit, lively humor, and twinkling eyes offer a light we can all carry forward.
A memorial service will take place in the Pelham area when large crowds can gather again. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Neuroendocrine Tumor Foundation in the name of “Wes Day” are most welcomed. https://netrf.org/get-involved/give-now/
