John White, Jr

John W. White, Jr., (90) went home to be with His Lord on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the University Medical Center in Jackson, MS. He was born June 18, 1923, in Bessemer, AL, the son of the late John W. White, Sr., and Faye Johnson White. He was married to Martha Louise Armstrong on October 12, 1947, in Bessemer, AL. They were married for 66 years. Mr. White was recognized for Meritorious Service while serving in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. He was employed with Woodward Iron Company in Birmingham, AL for 45 years. He enjoyed all sports including coaching Little League, playing golf, league bowling, coin collecting and was committed to community service as a member of the Mason and Shriner's organizations. As a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton, MS, he participated in the Spell/McPhail Sunday School Class and was active in the Joy Makers Choir. He was a man of great faith, a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He took great delight in spending time with his family and was always interested and involved in the lives of his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, two children, Martha Bacon (Bill) and John W. White, III (Trudy), 6 grandchildren, Amanda Thomas (Matt), Heather Bryant (Rusty), Joy Wilbanks (Trent), John W. White, IV (Kylie), Angela Fielder (Brent), David White, 16 great-grandchildren and his sister Myra "Sally" W. Lemley. His siblings Evelyn White and Gene White predeceased him. The celebration of his life will be held at 3:00pm on Monday, April 21, 2014, at Currie Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, AL 35244. 205-987-0068. The family will greet friends from 2:00-3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Clinton, 100 E. College Street, Clinton, MS 39056, designated for Lottie Moon International Missions. The family would like to express their gratitude to the faithful caregivers at The Blake, the caring nurses on 5 North at UMC, and the dedicated staff of Covenant Caregivers.
