John Pflaum

John Benjamin "Jack" Pflaum, 89, passed away on December 30, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Randich Pflaum; his parents, Benjamin and Edna Marie Janak Pflaum; and his sister, Marilyn Schuberg.
He is survived by his children, Tina Marie Pflaum of Birmingham, David John Pflaum and his wife Linde, of Brentwood, Tennessee, Keith James Pflaum and his wife, Tracy, of Birmingham, Brian Michael Pflaum and his wife, Suzette, of Hoover, and Mark John Pflaum and his wife, Sarah, of Mountain Brook; eight grandchildren, Adam Michael Pflaum, Landon Joseph Pflaum, Stephen Matthew Pflaum, Cara Elizabeth Pflaum, Brooke Alexandra Pflaum, Anna Lisa Pflaum, John Benjamin "Jack" Pflaum, and Avery Elizabeth Pflaum.
Jack was born and raised in Algonquin, Illinois. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Army of Occupation (Japan) following World War II. He was again called to active duty during the Korean Conflict and served from 1951 to 1953. Following his Honorable Discharge, Jack worked in sales for several firms until he retired from Schreiber Corporation in 1998. Jack enjoyed an active and full retirement with his wife, Evelyn, that included attending their grandchildren's events without fail and playing bridge whenever possible. Jack was a friend to all. He enjoyed golf, gardening, a good joke and was always ready to laugh. He will be missed. The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Nikki Wilson, LaTonya Williams, Nancy Kramer and Affinity Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover. Visitation will be at 9:30 AM with a funeral Mass starting at 10:30 AM. A private burial will follow at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's of Central Alabama, P.O. Box 2273, Birmingham, Alabama 35201.
