John Paulmeno, 85, of Hoover, Alabama, joined God and his loving grandson, Troy, in heaven on July 5, 2010. He died in his home with his wife of 60 years near his side. John was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to so many. He is survived by his wife Jessie; two children, Linda Sewell and John F. Paulmeno, his daughter-in-law Nadine and son-in-law Steve Sewell, four grandchildren, Hayley, Ana, Hunter and Abby. John also has a surviving sister, Carmela Addonizio of Valley Cottage, New York. He was preceded in death by 11 siblings: Frances Leonardo, Katherine Roman, Mary Campolo, Anthony Paulmeno, Anna Knapp, Frank Paulmeno, Victoria Sherman, Joseph Paulmeno and Roger Paulmeno and two infants. John's greatest asset was his love for people, be they family, friends, neighbors or even strangers. His family will always remember his ability to love unconditionally. He became a "surrogate grandfather" to so many children he met over the years and was always the "favorite uncle" of his nieces and nephews. But his greatest love was for his grandchildren. John and his family are parishioners of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. They moved to Hoover, Alabama, in 2004 from the suburbs of New York City, to be with their children and grandchilden. John served in the navy in the Pacific. For more than 30 years, he worked on Wall Street as the head of a printing department of an insurance brokerage firm. He loved the New York Yankees and was happy to see them win their 4th of July match against Toronto in extra innings. The family would like to thank parishioners of Prince of Peace Catholic Church who have provided love and support during the past few years, especially his caregiver Diana Silva. They also want to thank Alacare Hospice for their great support during the past three months. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday evening, July 7, 2010 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover, AL., from 5 until 7 with a funeral mass following at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, Attention: Memorial.
