of Birmingham, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the age of 90. He was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Birmingham in 1953. Mr. Lowther was a member of Shades Valley Lutheran Church for over 50 years, where he served as an usher and greeter up until shortly before his death. Mr. Lowther went to work for Lorch Jewelry Company in 1954 and retired as Senior Vice President in 1990. He was a member of Vestavia Country Club for 39 years where he enjoyed playing golf with his weekly playing partners “The Boysâ€. Mr. Lowther especially enjoyed being recognized as the participant of the month at the VCC fitness center. He was always seen at the ballpark and golf course where he watched his grandchildren compete. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 60 years, Irene Lowther; three sisters, Dorothy Loerch, Mildred Swope, and Jane Black. He is survived by a son, Jack Lowther (Lee); a daughter, Patti Peters (Nick); six grandchildren, Blake Lowther, Todd Lowther (Rachel), Patrick Lowther (Kristen), Nicholas Peters (Amanda), Christian Peters (Ashley) and Shannon Peters; three great-grandchildren, Grayson, Elizabeth, and Addison Peters. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 12, 2009 from 10-11 AM at Shades Valley Lutheran Church. Funeral service will follow at 11 AM at the church with Rev. Daniel Dahl officiating. The family will have a private graveside service. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Mr. Lowther’s caregiver, Yolanda Brown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shades Valley Lutheran Church.
