John Avington Farrington, of Birmingham, Alabama and more recently of Franklin, Tennessee went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Wednesday, September 14, 2022.
Born to John and Ethel Farrington in Coleanor, Alabama, November 9, 1935, John grew up in Fairfield. He was graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. John began his long and productive career with Anderson Electric Company in Leeds, and stayed with that company through successive owners: Square D and Hubbell. Throughout his career, John created and developed many devices used in transmitting electricity from generation to end-user in our electric grid today.
John, called Johnny by friends and family, married his sweetheart and best friend for life, Carolyn Jo Martin, in 1955. He dearly loved Carolyn, their four children, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Johnny kept in close touch with his extended family and many friends. Kind, generous and always ready to listen, Johnny was looked to for guidance by friends and family.
As a young father, John taught several different Sunday School classes at Huffman United Methodist Church, where because of his beautiful bass singing voice and love of music, he was active with the Church choir. John was also a member of a barbershop quartet.
An avid tennis player he continued his game until recently.
Preceded in death by brother, William E. Farrington, grandsons Blake Farrington and Daniel Cohn; John is survived by his wife, Carolyn; sons Michael and his wife Donna, Mark and his wife Shannon, Chris and his wife Stephanie; daughter Jenifer and her husband Kevin Burke; grandchildren Evan Farrington, Chase Farrington, Abby Goff, Taylor Farrington, Emma Farrington and Ethan Cohn; great grandchildren Daly, Ryne, Eva and Ellis Farrington; Landon and Aidyn Goff.
