John Creel

John Stephens Creel, born on July 26, 1928 and died on April 8, 2014. He was the son of Earnest Carl Creel and Irenia "Johnnie" Stephens Creel.
John Creel was a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelors degree and a Masters of Business Administration. He was also a graduate of the Cumberland School of Law.
While at the University of Alabama he was a member of Chi Phi fraternity and a member of Tau Trust.
Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the US Army and served with honor in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged from the US Army with the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
Upon returning to civilian life, he embarked upon a long and successful career of over 50 years in the insurance business as an agency owner and assisted his son, John S. Creel, Jr., in the establishment of his own independent insurance agency.
Aside from his business success, John Creel was a devoted father to John S. Creel, Jr (Clara) and Lyn Creel Thomas (Brett). He was also the step-father of Robert Montgomery (Hollie), Kendall Montgomery Plier (Steve) and Cole Montgomery (Michelle).
He was also the proud grandfather of Ana Maria Creel, Isabella Creel, Blair Thomas Fitzpatrick, Emily Garmon Chalk (John), Sarah Plier, Morgan Montgomery and Sallie Montgomery. He was also the great grandfather of Sam, Jack and Maya Fitzpatrick.
John Creel was a member of the Vestavia Country Club for over fifty years and Canterbury Methodist Church.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at 11:30 AM at Canterbury Methodist Church.
