John Anderson, Jr

July 24, 1934 — February 14, 2014

John M. Anderson, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014.

A longtime resident of the City of Hoover, he was born on July 24, 1934 in Clarksville, Tennessee. During college, he took a two year break to proudly serve as a member of the Military Police in the United States Army. John graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in economics and finance. He had a long and successful career in industrial sales. In 1986, John and his wife founded Manufacturers Packaging Services (ManPac). ManPac is an award winning, nationally recognized supplier of industrial products and services.

John was active in a number of social and civic organizations including the Hoover Industrial Development Board, the Poinsettia Men’s Club, Opera Birmingham, and his favorite, Coffee Club. He also served as a member of the State of Alabama Industrial and Commercial Development Board and on the Development Committee for the City of Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. John’s passions included family, friends, music, the arts, cooking, and volunteering. We will miss his loving nature, generous spirit, and dry sense of humor.

John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Faye Bloodworth Anderson, his daughters, Beth Anderson Morrissette (Henry), and Laura Faye Anderson (Brad Hilyer); grandchildren Elizabeth and Henry Morrissette; and loving family, devoted friends, and loyal co-workers.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Vestavia, Alabama on Saturday, February 22 at 2 pm. The family will receive visitors from 1-2 pm at the church prior to the start of the service.

In keeping with John’s loving and giving nature, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either Big Oak Ranch at Post Office Box 507, Springville, Alabama 35416 or Government Street Presbyterian Church Urban Ministries Program, serving 1,000 meals weekly to the homeless and poor of Mobile, 300 Government Street, Mobile, Alabama 36602. Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
