, age 70, of Brandon, Florida passed away June 14, 2008 at Shelby Ridge Select Rehab in Alabaster, AL. Mr. Abernathy was born in Fayette County, AL., on Feb. 19, 1938, to Jesse and Avie Lou Abernathy. He spent 21 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Air Force, where he was involved in the development of the F-111 Fighter Plane and was awarded numerous commendations, awards, and citations during his service. After his retirement he enjoyed a career in the cable industry. Mr. Abernathy was preceded in death by his parents, brother Edward, and sisters Jewel Wade, Brenda Horton, and Wanda Abernathy. He is survived by his son, Micheal K. Abernathy; two daughters Lisa A. Cahill (Dalton) and Tracy M. Walden; and granddaughter, Lindsey Walden; two sisters, Nadine Bryant, and Gayle Ashley; three brothers, Lenward, Robert and Richard Abernathy; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family recieve friends on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 from 5-7 pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Hwy 150 in Hoover. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 10 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
