Jo Baker

Mrs. Jo Ann Weaver Baker, of Vestavia Hills, AL, died Sunday, October 21st at home after a five year battle with Ovarian Cancer. Born in Birmingham, AL, February 14, 1948, to Noah Ottice and Ila Mae Weaver, Jo Ann was a lifetime student and teacher; she received her undergraduate degree from Jacksonville State University, master's degree from the University of Montevallo, master's degree from the University of Alabama. She was a teacher in the Shelby County School system for 27 years. She taught at Vincent High School, AREA Vocational School in Columbiana and Thompson High School. Jo Ann retired from teaching in 2000. Upon retirement she went on to sell real estate for ReMax Advantage. Jo Ann is survived by her husband, Donald M. Baker and her son, Christopher R. Warren and his wife, Catherine; three grandchildren, Elise, Max, and Reese; step-son, Jeff Baker and step-grandchildren Sommer, Jeffrey, Sarah; and many other relatives and close friends. The visitation will be Thursday, Oct 25th at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Hwy 150 from 6-8 PM. The funeral service will be Friday, Oct 26th at Lakeside Baptist Church at 11 AM. Services conducted by Dr. Mike McLemore. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Special thank you to numerous friends and Comfort Care Hospice of Pelham.
