Jessie Paulmeno March 22, 1928 to January 8, 2012 Jessie Paulmeno, 83, of Hoover, Alabama, joined God, her loving husband and their dear grandson in heaven on January 8, 2012. Jessie was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to so many. She is survived by two children, Linda Sewell and John Paulmeno, both of Hoover, AL, a daughter-in-law Nadine Paulmeno and son-in-law Steve Sewell, and four grandchildren, Hayley, Ana, Hunter and Abby. Jessie also has a surviving sister, Elsie Putsis of Weeki Wachee, Florida. Jessie was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 60 years, John, her dear grandson, Troy, and her parents, Frank and Mary Kollar. Jessie loved her family more than anything. She and her husband moved to Hoover, Alabama, in 2004 from the suburbs of New York City, to be with their children and grandchildren, not an easy transition at that latter point in life. She was by her husband John’s side as he struggled the last several years of his life with Parkinson's disease, and missed him terribly after his death in 2010. She had the same devotion toward her father in his later years, caring for him round the clock during a prolonged illness. But her two children and five grandchildren were the love of her life. They were always her priority, and her thoughtfulness, generosity and unconditional love were gifts that will remain embedded within them. It was common knowledge that “Grandma could make it, fix it, sew it or figure it out.†But Jessie's love didn't stop with her immediate family. She was the “favorite aunt†among her dozens of nieces and nephews, and became a surrogate grandmother to many of the children and grandchildren in her neighborhood, both in NY and in Alabama, providing presents at Christmas and birthdays, treats and a welcome place to play in her home and yard. Her warmth and fun spirit made others want to be around her. Jessie, and her husband John, were known for their selfless generosity, with family, friends, and with the hundreds of charities she donated their small income to over the years. Jessie was a parishioner of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and was devoted to her faith and her God though the good times and difficult ones, such as losing her four year old grandson in 2004. The family would like to thank all Jessie's friends and neighbors who brought her joy, companionship and comfort during the past eight years she has lived in Alabama, especially Diana Silva and Bob & Jeanette Cricchio who became a lifeline to her during her husband's illness and death. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday evening, January 12, 2012 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover, AL., from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. A funeral mass will follow at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, Attention: Memorial. Please state your donations are in memory of Jessie Paulmeno.
