Jerry Louise Wildsmith Vickery passed away quietly at her home in Birmingham, Alabama surrounded by her family on March 28, 2018.
She was born on November 2,1937 to Henry Alexander Wildsmith and Elizabeth Sudderth at South Highland Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Scott Vickery, grandchildren Anna and Patrick Werszner, and son-in-law Samuel (Boggie) Rowe. Jerry is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Reverend Wayne Vickery; children Chris (Buddy) Clements, Patricia Clements Rowe, Leigh Ann Clements Werszner (Jeff), Mark Vickery (Fay), Susan Vickery Rikard (Vic), and Eric Vickery (Kate); grandchildren Daniel and Hannah Rowe, Veronica and John Werszner; Gwen, Michelle, Nickolas and Yana Vickery, Cody Rikard and Meghan Rikard Rongey (Dominic); sister Susan Wildsmith Dowdey (Ben) and niece Amy Dowdey; and great-grandchildren Olivia and Isabella Rowe; William Rongey and Sam Schillaci.
Jerry fought a difficult battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a degenerative neurological disease. The family is grateful for the compassionate year of care of Priscilla Jackson and St. Vincent’s Hospice in Jerry’s final days.
The family will receive friends from 1-1:30, Friday, March 30, 2018, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150 in Hoover. Service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, Rev. David Commer, Rev. Charles Alexander, and Sister Madeline Contorno officiating. A private burial will follow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers to please make a donation in Jerry’s memory to CUREPSP.ORG.
