Jerrie McRae Cantrell Kitchings, age 85, of Hoover, Alabama, died peacefully after a long battle with dementia.
Jerrie was born on January 27, 1936, and she passed away on Friday August 13, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents; John and Maggie Lee Cantrell, brother; John Cantrell, sisters; Regina House Ellis & Bobbie Epstein, and daughter; Julie Kay Shaw. She is survived by her sons; William J. Kitchings, Jr., (Lynn) and Robert B. Kitchings (Carrie), son-in-law; Tim Shaw (Pam), grandsons; Blake Kitchings (April), and Lawson Shaw, granddaughters; Kelsey Kitchings Sweeney (Devon) and Kyla Shaw; great granddaughter; Cameron Hope Kitchings and great grandsons; Connor Kitchings Sweeney & Jace Maddox Sweeney.
Jerrie enjoyed a long career in the nursing medical field and held several different positions through-out. She graduated from the Birmingham Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1959, later obtained her B.S. in Nursing from the University of Alabama in 1965, and in 1984 obtained her Master of Art Education from UAB. She was an early resident of Hoover – Green Valley, an active member of Shade Crest Baptist Church, enjoyed ballroom dancing, and was a member of The Club.
Her family wishes to thank the staff at Country Cottages and Cook Springs, for their comfort and care.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday August 24, 2021 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South Hoover, Alabama. The family request in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society in the name of Julie Kitchings Shaw.
