Jemmie Randle Liles Hawk, age 82, died Thursday morning, November 25, 2010. She was a resident of Hoover, Alabama. Jemmie was the middle daughter of seven daughters born to the late Tom and Alma Randle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Mildred Jordan and Libby Boren, and by her first husband Fred B. Liles. Jemmie is survived by her husband James (Jim) Hawk and five children who she lovingly raised and college educated on her own through great personal sacrifice, Randy (Patti) Liles of White Plains, Vicki Liles Cunningham of Hoover, Lisa Beth (Warren) Whitlock of Evans, Georgia, Jeffrey Bruce (Karen) Liles of Dothan, and Timothy Tom (April) Liles of Tuscaloosa; sisters Mary Wideman, Joy Champion, Tommie Walker, and Adele (Milton) Ward; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and the heart of our family. We were most blessed to have her as our mother and she will be greatly missed every single day of our lives. Jemmie graduated from Bessemer High School in 1946, attended the University of Alabama for one year, and then worked at the Birmingham News. She completed her Bachelor's Degree in Education at Jacksonville State University, and her Master's Degree and AA certificate at the University of Alabama. She worked as an elementary school teacher, as a real estate agent in Jacksonville, and then retired as a Military Police training evaluator at Ft. McClellan. She was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Jemmie and Jim loved to ballroom dance. They were active members of Concordia Dance Club for a number of years, and also enjoyed dancing at JBY, The Club, and the Vestavia Senior Center where they met. Jim and Jemmie were married November 15, 1998. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Hwy 150 in Hoover, Alabama. Visitation with the family is from 12-1:30 PM with the funeral starting at 1:30 PM. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer, Alabama immediately following the service. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the GW Foundation at Galleria Woods Retirement Community where she has lived for the past 4 years. The entire family would like to thank Dr. David McGiffin and Dr. Robert Robichaux, and the staffs of the CCU, CICU and 5th floor cardiac unit at UAB for their professionalism, concern, and loving care of our wife and mother--you are greatly appreciated.
