of Birmingham, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at the age of 85. As a child, she grew up in McCalla and was the daughter of William D. and Verlie Benton Atchison. She graduated from McAdory H. S. in 1939 and married her high school sweetheart, G. Clyde Cox. Mrs. Sumners worked for Dr. Edward's practice in McCalla and retired from Pullman Standard Co. in Bessemer. She was a skilled seamstress, an avid writer and a talented calligrapher. She was a member of Riverchase United Methodist Church and the Seeker's Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Grover Clyde Cox, and her second husband, Leonard Lumas Sumners. Mrs. Sumners is survived by her special friend and sweetheart, William E. Jackson; a son, Neil Benton Cox (Carol Yager) of San Antonio, TX; a daughter, Cheryl Cox Davidson (Thomas) of Hoover; two step-daughters, Jerry S. Burch (William) and Jan S. Rumsey (Casey); eight grandchildren, Ashley M. Deaton (Steve), Alan B. Cox, Thomas Blake Davidson (Devon), Benton J. Davidson, C. Casey Rumsey (Erica), W. Bradley Burch (Jodi), Ryan F. Burch, and Steven S. Rumsey (Frances); and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 31, 2007, from 11-1 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150, Hoover. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1 PM. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
