Follower of Christ, mother of three, nurse and Army wife, Jean Norris Brown passed away peacefully in her home with her family at her side on January 3, 2021.
Jean was born December 4, 1934 to Alton and Eutha (Halstead) Norris in Dothan, Alabama, where she spent most of her early years. After graduating from Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta, she married Gene L Brown in 1956 and commenced 32 years of Army life. Amid seventeen moves, she raised her children, especially enjoying the postings to Heidelberg, Germany and Bicester, England. After moving to Birmingham in 1982, she resumed her nursing career, working at the Eye Foundation Hospital and at UAB.
Jean was an active and faithful member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church and was devoted to its Friendship Sunday School Class.
She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her daughter-in-law Darla Brown, and her sister-in-law Shirley Norris.
She is survived by her son Ronald Brown and her daughters Lea Bennett (Bob) and Patty Brown (Paul Fleischman), her grandchildren Flannery Fitch and Molly Singer, her brother Jimmy Norris (Susan), her sister-in-law Dorothy Halstead, and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bluff Park UMC endowment fund. Interment will take place at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
