Janet Rose Berst of Hoover, Alabama, formerly of Evanston, Illinois, entered heaven on September 23, 2021. Ms. Berst, third child of John Albert and Mary Ruth, nee Barnes, Berst, was born in Indiana. Ms. Berst was employed for 31 years in Information Technology. Ms. Berst was one of the producers of the TV Series “Faith in Community” on ECTV from 1994 to 2004 and won an EVVY award for the documentary “St. Paul’s Ephesus”.
After retirement, Ms. Berst published eight books of family history. She and the Hershey Derry Township Historical Society of Hershey, PA coordinated a Decoration Ceremony for three Revolutionary War Veterans and a Dedication Ceremony for a Historic Marker for the Berst Family and the Berst Burial Ground. Ms. Berst received the Distinguished Alumna Award for Personal Achievement from Taylor University, Upland, IN.
Ms. Berst is preceeded in death by her parents, her sister, Joanne Okura, and three cousins. She is survived by her brother, Albert Henry Berst of Birmingham, AL; five nieces and a nephew; seven grand nieces and nephews; one great grandniece; five cousins; and friends. The memorial service will be on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 2:00pm. Inurnment will be in the Riverchase United Methodist Church Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Riverchase UMC.
