Janet Wood

Janet P. Wood, of McCalla, passed away on Thursday, July 6th at 11:59 P.M. at the age of 70. She passed at her home after a brief illness. Janet graduated from the University of Montevallo with a nursing degree and put it to good use her entire life. Whether she was caring for patients or her loved ones, she was the go to girl when it came to people repair. She always went at it with the same passion that she lived her life. She spent 27 years at Labcorp as a lab supervisor and retired to spend time with her loved ones. To understand Janet we need not look any further than her last months as she faced her illness and diagnosis of cancer. She took the road less traveled and decided to go home and let nature take its course. That is a decision that showed her courage and selflessness as to not put the ones she loved through a long and drawn out process. Her faith was evident on a daily bases, and her last years were spent attending Cottage Hill Baptist Church where she and her husband, Dale Wood, were active participants. They loved their church and Pastor Jerry as he warmly invites and welcomes all into their fold. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Wood; her parents, Oliver Commodore Sims and Violet Beatrice Sims; and her sister, Bobbie J. Irvine.

She is survived by her nephews, Bart Irvine, Gary Irvine and Scott Irvine; great nephews and nieces; Cavan Irvine, Darcy Irvine, and Darian Irvine; and a very special young man whom she was very fond of, Conner Wallace.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home from 1-2 PM with the service to follow at 2 PM in the Chapel. Pastor Jerry Sherril, officiating.
