Janet Eleanor Richards, born in Aberporth, Wales UK on the 17th of March, 1944 to Eluned and Elfyn Richards. Janet passed away on 18th of January, 2025 in Birmingham, AL USA.
Janet is preceded in death by her mother Eluned Richards, father Elfyn Richards, daughter-in-law Courtney Richardson, her beloved corgi Dewey, and countless other loved dogs. Janet is survived by her husband of 57 years William B. Richardson, Jr. (Bill), children David (Carrie) Richardson of Birmingham AL, Nikki (Tony) Allen of Prosper, TX, Gavin (Erin) Richardson of Nashville, TN, and Shawn (Tiffany) Richardson of Nashville, TN; her trio of sisters Sylvia Charles, Glen Bazeley, and Lynn Harwood of the UK.
With special love Janet is survived by many grandchildren who know her as "Nana"; Nick (Victoria) Richardson, CC Scott, Payton Allen, Keegan Allen, Mekenzie Richardson, Kayla (Jordan) Reed, Dawson Allen, Madalyn Richardson, Brooks Richardson, Noah Richardson, Easton Allen, Rhys Richardson, Whit Richardson, and Iley Richardson. They were her joy.
Janet is survived by even more cousins, nieces, nephews, foster children, corgis, and friends around the world too numerous to count.
Born in Aberporth, Wales UK to Eluned and Elfyn Richards in 1944 Janet traveled the world with her father's work eventually settling in Southampton, Hampshire England. Janet finished schooling at HRH Princess Christian College an moved to the United States under her first charge as an au pair. In the United States she met William B. Richardson Jr. (Bill) whom she would marry in 1967 at United Methodist Church of Hartford, Connecticut. Through 57 years together Janet & Bill had four children of their own; David, Nikki, Gavin, and Shawn. In their early years of starting a family they were also foster home for over 40 children. They have had three major stops setting down home roots; Hoover, AL two times & Cinnaminson, NJ. In all places Janet and Bill were known for their community and church involvement as well as a passion for Pembroke Welsh Corgis and the dog communities. Janet was always known locally as "Miss Janet" as she had a career as an in-home childcare provider in Hoover and Cinnaminson.
Janet's life is marked by faith, loved ones, church communities, helping others, gathering with family, corgis, and providing a home for anyone who was in need of one. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
A celebration for the life lived by Janet will be held at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 2901 Columbiana Road Vestavia Hills, AL 35216 on Saturday January 25th. Visitation will be at 1pm and celebration service at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to children's charities in honor of Janet; Alabama Children's Home, St. Jude Hospital, or a children's program of your choosing.
