Mom.
Three letters that carry more weight than anyone can fathom. For Janet, those letters held her responsibility to her husband, Dennis, and her children, Patrick and Alex, to her daughter-in-law, Megan, and more than likely her favorite responsibility, to her grandchildren, Madison Grace and Britton.
Whether it was Christmas, which she planned for months, a family vacation, which she also planned for months, or just a regular day of the week, Janet was there fulfilling her responsibility and passion, the boundless love for her family.
Janet was the daughter of Herman and Melba Fancher. She was raised in South Highland Baptist Church, where she acquired her foundational principles of love of God, love of family, and personal responsibility. She graduated high school from Bessemer Academy in 1981. After high school she went to UAB where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1985. She treated and comforted thousands of patients from the Burn Unit at Children’s Hospital, to the Alabama Poison Control Center. Janet met her husband, Dennis, of 35 years in nursing school. They married in 1986. Dennis called her “Jan-Jan”. They had two children, Patrick in 1988, and Alex in 1991. Patrick and his wife Megan blessed Janet and Dennis with two grandchildren, Madison Grace in 2012, and Britton in 2014. For Janet, those grandchildren were on a whole different level of love. Any and every second of time she could spend with them she did.
Janet touched so many lives. She lived with so much strength. She made you feel strong. She made you feel listened to. She made you feel LOVED.
