,of Hoover, formerly of McLean, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the age of 91. He was an administrative law judge at the Federal Communications Commission for many years. He had been serving as an arbitrator for the DC Bar Association and NASD up until March 2009. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Prince of Peace Council 11537 in Hoover. Jim served in the US Army during WWII and remained in the active reserve for 20 years, achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel. After the war, Jim was in Germany with the State Department overseeing the restructuring of IG Farben and subsequent criminal trials at Nuremberg. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gwen Tierney; four daughters, Patricia Wilson, Jeanne McConnell (Edward), Susan Frederick (Matthew), and Elizabeth Baun (Lawrence); his son, James Tierney, III (Kathryn); five grandchildren, Emily Arthur (Todd), Evan Baun, Devon Tierney, Stephanie Tierney, and Jenna Tierney; two sisters, Lorraine Bagley (Robert) and Doris Siemer (Herman). The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 from 10-11 AM at Prince Of Peace Catholic, 4600 Moss Creek Blvd, Hoover. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM at the church with Father Henry McDaid officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
