James Rice

James Michael Rice passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024, at the age of 80, cared for by his loving daughter and son. The cause of death was a stroke. James was born April 2nd, 1944, in Talladega, Alabama. He was the son of the late James Malcolm Rice and Mattie Louise Shaw.

James was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Karyl J Rice. He is survived by his sisters Linda and Janice. He is also survived by his daughter Karlyn McCombs (Danny) and son Chris (Allison). He enjoyed time with his two granddaughters Emma Kate and Abigail.

James was a graduate of Tennessee Technical College. He was a steadfast husband and loving father. His work ethic and commitment to things he considered important was a valuable trait to his entire family. It takes a long look back over James' life to see the numerous times that friends and family leaned on him for a helping hand to walk with them through trying times. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force on August 2nd, 1968, after serving his country for four years. Most notably in professional life, James worked for US Steel in Birmingham, AL for a large portion of his career. Later, after 'retiring' he found work with AutoZone as a fleet driver up until two years ago.

James will be laid to rest at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.
