James T. Perry, 90, of Hoover, Alabama passed away on January 12, 2023. Jim was born on April 1, 1932 to the late Bob and Tachie Russell Perry of Perry Store Community. The Coffee County native attended Kinston Schools graduating in 1950.
Jim received his degree in Business Administration from Auburn University (API) in 1954. While at Auburn, he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the ROTC.
Mr. Perry began his military career with the Armor Division of the Army in Fort Knox, Kentucky and then served in Germany as a tank commander for 18 months. Upon return, he joined the Army Reserve as Company Commander in the Tallassee 809 Replacement Company. He retired in 1992 as Lieutenant Colonel with the 87th Maneuver Area Command.
Jim married Sara Stembridge of Newton, Alabama in November, 1957. His career began with Remington Rand in Montgomery, Alabama where they resided. He later accepted a position with S.C. Johnson and Son in Birmingham, Alabama where he had a 30 year career retiring as District Manager.
Mr. Perry was a devoted member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church, active in the Friendship Class, Administrative Board, and other committees. Jim was a volunteer for the Bluff Park Art Show. He enjoyed family and friends, the Hoover Recreation Center, playing golf at Hoover Country Club, and spending time at Perry Store.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Tachie Perry, his brother, Waylon “Buddy” (Agnes), his sister, Kathleen (Jasper). He is survived by his wife Sara, his son, David (Sharon), his grandson, Brandon (Alli), his three great grandchildren, Audrey, Reese, and Thomas, and his brother, Jack (Marion).
Jim will be buried at the Alabama National Cemetery, followed by a service at Bluff Park United Methodist Church at 12:00 PM, Wednesday , January 18, 2023.
