James Land

James Edward Land, 89, of Hoover, died after a short illness on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. He was born September 21, 1926 to Wesley Miller and Mozelle McLeroy Land in Cottonton (Russell County) AL. A lifelong member of the Baptist church, his military service was with the Army Air Corps. He missed Pacific deployment by less than a month with Japan’s surrender. After attending Auburn, he married his high school sweetheart, Helen Parkman, in Seale, AL on December 24, 1948. James loved the country and farming. His 39 year career in agri-chemicals kept him connected with farmers and the land. His interests included travel, investments, gardening, and his family.
James is predeceased by his parents; his sister and four brothers; and by his daughter, Linda Alice Land. He is survived by his wife of 66 years; daughter Judy (Gary) West of Huntsville, AL; son Ed (Allyson) Land of Decatur, AL; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and other relatives.
Visitation for James will be Saturday, October 17, 10:00 a.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, with service and committal to follow at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Dr. Randy Atkinson, First Baptist Church of Hoover.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to First Baptist Church of Hoover or Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, Cottonton, AL.
