James “Ken” Jones, aged 80, of Birmingham, AL passed away January 3, 2021. He was born in Clanton, Alabama to Robert “Wash” Jones and Alice Jones Driskill on June 18, 1940. Ken is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Martha; his son Jay (Tonja); two grandchildren, Aly Pineda (Jarrod) and Austin Jones (Bekah); one great-grandchild, Michael; and three sisters, Rebecca Caldwell (Howard), Kate Driskill, and Nan Lucero. He also leaves a host of cousins and friends by whom he was much loved. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Ken grew up in west Birmingham, attending West End High School and going on to graduate from the University of Alabama, where he became an avid Alabama football fan. His intention was to go to Med School, but quite by accident discovered the newly emerging field of computer programming and this became his life-long career. He was a member of Riverchase United Methodist Church.
Ken was most happy being with his family and friends and was a devoted husband, father, and “Pa.” We will miss his sweet smile, loving hugs, great stories, and witty “glad you got to see me” goodbyes, but are rejoicing that he is home with our Lord.
If desired, donations in his honor can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Alabama in Hueytown.
He will be laid to rest at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South in Hoover, Alabama.
