James Jones

of Shelby, passed away on April 13, 2012 at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife Jane, of almost 55 years; his sons Jimmy of Wetumpka; Jerry (Jenny), of Oxford; Jeff (Kathy) of Columbiana, and daughter Janell (Mark) Witherspoon, of Melbourne, Florida; grandchildren Michael (Heather) Jones; Matt (Lauren) Jones; Zachary and Brady Patterson; Rebecca and Karry Jones; Philip, Eric, and Kate Witherspoon; and great granddaughter, Madison Jones. Morris was born on June 19, 1936, the son of N.A. and Gertie Jones. He graduated from Shelby County High School in 1954. He graduated from Howard College (Samford University) in 1958 with a B.S. in Business. His class was the frist to graduate from the new campus. At Howard College, Morris played football, with Bobby Bowden as a coach. He was a hard worker and retired from Doane Products 12 years ago. Morris was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He cherished his children with all his heart. Morris loved mission work and special needs children. Morris loved sports and played football, baseball and basketball. He was a football official for 20 years. As a sports player, his number was always 13, and he passed away on the 13th. Morris was a member of First Baptist Church Columbiana, and loved singing in the senior choir. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 16, 2012 from 1 to 2 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mike Miller officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church Columbiana Building Fund.
