of Hoover, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2008 at the age of 81, while living with his wife at Galleria Woods Retirement Center in Hoover, Alabama. He was originally from Atlanta, Georgia, where he was born on April 8, 1927 into the family of Jesse and Mark Johnston. Mr. Johnston graduated from Boy’s High School and later, Georgia Tech. He proudly served his country in the Merchant Marines during the Korean War. Mr. Johnston spent his career employed by AT&T Corporation and lived in Atlanta, Birmingham, as well as Owensboro and Louisville, Kentucky during this time. Upon his retirement, he moved to Peachtree City, Georgia, where he was active in the Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church. In 2002, he and his wife moved back to the Birmingham area and were active in the worship services at Galleria Woods. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Martha Jo Boozer Johnston; his son, James Gordon “Jim†Johnston, Jr. (Dot); his grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth Johnston and James Edwin Johnston; his sister, Josephine Price; his sister-in-law, Gloria Johnston; his brother-in-law, Virgil Boozer (Vernelle); and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. A graveside service for immediate family members will be held at a later date in Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, it was his wish that any donation be made to Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church, 101 Carriage Lane, Peachtree City, GA 30269.
