After discharge from the Navy, Jimmy earned an engineering degree at Auburn University, and became a lifelong Auburn fan. In 1948 he married Wilma - the love of his life - and their marriage bloomed for 64 years. "When I met my wife,' Jimmy once said, "I knew we were soul mates the moment I laid eyes on her. It was as if our hearts were connected from that very moment." Jimmy worked for Alabama Power Company, retiring after 37 years. Jimmy was a member of IEEE and was a registered professional engineer. He also served as President of the National Management Association for two years. He was a founding member of the Alabama Power Stock Club. Jimmy was active in the Energizers retirement group and volunteered in his community including the Huffman Civitan Club, the Boy Scouts of America, the Salvation Army, Aldridge Gardens, and The Crest Neighborhood Association where he was President. Jimmy was also active in the Corts Destroyer Escort Association, where he served as President. Jimmy and Wilma loved dancing as members of the Wheels and Deals Square Dance Club and the Arabs Dance Club. Jimmy was a member of Huffman Baptist Church for 45 years and was a current member of Lakeside Baptist Church. Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife, Wilma Brittain Duke and three children: James (Faye), Jeannie (Jim Loop), and Lance (Debbie). He has three grandchildren, Jamie Duke (Mave), Brendan Loop and Abbie Duke; and great granddaughter, Emma Grace Duke. Known as Paw-Paw, he loved his wife and children, and would do anything for his grandchildren. The family is grateful for the tender care and support from the staff from Hospice Advantage.
