James Oliver Belew, age 94, of Bessemer, AL, passed away August 26, 2020, at The Oaks on Parkwood, a senior living community.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Bee Belew and Lillie V. Belue of Rogersville, AL; his first wife of 61 years, Ethel Siniard Belew of Bessemer, AL; and eight brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Gladys Craig Belew of Bessemer, AL; his daughter, Susan Belew Evans of Gardendale, AL; his granddaughter, Ashley Evans Thomas of Jasper, AL; his grandson, Aaron Christopher Evans of Birmingham, AL; his great granddaughter, Calliope Thomas of Jasper, AL; and his step daughters, Lynda (Fred) Brannon of Hoover, AL, Pam (Randy) Thrasher of Atlanta, GA, Sharon Pearson of Alabaster, AL, and many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Monday, August 31, 2 p.m., at the Chapel at Hunter Street Baptist Church, 2600 John Hawkins Pkwy (Hwy 150), Hoover, AL, with visitation ½ hour before the service at 1:30 p.m. Social distancing will be observed, and masks must be worn.
Special thanks go to the staff at The Oaks on Parkwood, especially Jackie Barnes and Teresa Lindsey at The Orchard for their loving care, and the staff at Hunter Street Baptist Church for their visits and encouragement. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hunter Street Baptist Church.
