of Hoover, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2006, at the age of 79. He was a master craftsman - woodworker. He truly loved the outdoors and nature. Jack and Dimples were accomplished ballroom dancers, and he enjoyed this activity very much. He was a 20 year life member of the Concordia Beneficial Society. He served in the U. S. Army in the 707th Artillery Gun Battalion. Mr. Sherman was a 50 year life member of the Mason's in the Hewitt North Birmingham 519. He had served on the Board of Stewards at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in North Birmingham. He most recently was an active member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church where he was a member of the church maintenance group. He also was past president twice of the Opportunity Sunday School Class at the Church. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and friend to many. He is survived by his wife, Dimples Sherman; a son, Steve Sherman (Delores); two grandsons, Stephen and Michael Sherman; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the loving support of our family, friends and neighbors, the VA Medical Center, Dr. Francis Robert, The Oncology nurses, and the nurses and staff of Odyssey Hospice. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 21, 2006, from 2 PM until 3 PM at Bluff Park United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3 PM at the church with Rev. Reid Crotty officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Building Fund of Bluff Park United Methodist Church.
