Age 85, a longtime resident of Bluff Park, AL, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011. Mr. Parker was a WWII and Korean War veteran. He served as a Birmingham and Bluff Park firefighter for many years. For over 20 years, Mr. Parker operated the Citgo gas station on Shades Crest Road. He was well-known in the area and loved by many. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Sue Chandler Parker; children, Jack Parker (Donna) of North Las Vegas, NV; Renee Thomas (Ro); Eddie Parker (Susie); and Tinka Bentley (David). He has twelve grandchildren, Jay Parker of Fort Myers, FL, Daniel Parker, Randy Parker of North Las Vegas, NV, and Jenny Parker of Wilmington, NC; Chris Sawyer and Rebeccah Sawyer Myrick (Jeff); Chandler Parker , Bobby Parker and Chelsea Navarro ; Ryan Bentley, Marc Bentley and Stephen Bentley. He also has two great-grandchildren, Lily Myrick and Abbey Myrick, many nieces and nephews, and longtime family friend, Greg Crittenden of Atlanta, GA. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on John Hawkins Parkway in Hoover. Family viewing will be at 10:00 a.m. and the family will receive friends at 11 a.m. with a service at 12 noon, Kevin Vanderlaan officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association, Magic Moments or a charity of your choice.
