Jack Lloyd Flippo, MD, passed away Friday, September 30, 2016, at age 62. Jack was born in Birmingham, Alabama and grew up with his family in Birmingham. Jack graduated from John Carroll High School in 1972 and then went on to earn a bachelor of science with honors from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. He then matriculated at the UAB school of medicine, receiving his MD degree in 1982. He was accepted into pediatric residency at Charlotte Memorial Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. He practiced pediatric medicine locally in Charlotte for 20 years. In the later part of his career he practiced in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Jack loved being a pediatrician and enjoyed critical care the most in his profession. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, art, landscaping, fishing, playing golf, and going for walks. Jack was loved and admired by his patients, families, and colleagues. He was well respected and had a gentle and calm approach to pediatrics. Jack was preceded in death by his father Jack Lloyd Flippo, Sr.
Jack is survived by his wife, Kara Flippo; son, Duncan Flippo; stepson, Matthew Moffat; his mother, Dale Morgan; brother, Greg Flippo (Melissa) and their children Hillary, Gunnar, and Reed; sister, Kim Pennington and her boys Tyler and Clay. He is additionally survived by Asa and Shirley Rosson; sister-in-law, Kimberly VanBuren and her children Mikie and Hannah.
A Memorial Service will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, on Friday, October 14, 2016, at 1:00 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. An additional Memorial Service will be held in North Carolina, which is to be determined at a later date. Future dates will be posted on the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home website, under Jack's obituary, once those dates are available.
