a long-time resident of the Hoover Community, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007 at a local hospital, at the age of 91. He was former owner of the Green Valley Barber Shop and was inducted into the Barber's Hall of Fame. Mr. Shirley was a former member of Indian Springs First Baptist and was a current member of Hoover First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward M. and Ophelia Shirley; two brothers, Herman and Earnest Shirley; three sisters, Floy Deavors, Daisey Werts and Lorene Nicholson; and a great granddaughter, Ashley Agee Bell. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth Reynolds Shirley; a son, James E. Shirley of Cahaba Heights; three daughters, Carolyn Burchfield (George) of McCalla, Gail Bailey (Wayne) of Oneonta and Joan Thrift (Ray) of Mt. Olive; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a brother, Dr. R. E. Shirley (Ann) of Bluff Park; and a host of friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, from 5-7 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Randy Atkinson and Dr. Earl Tew officiating.
