Irene Brown Harris, of Birmingham, AL, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Hospital, she was 78. Irene was born on February 11, 1939, in Winston County, Alabama, but she lived the majority of her life in Shelby County.
Irene loved being around people and was generous with everyone she met. For many years she ran a day care in her home where she loved each child as her own. She was an excellent cook and took that gift and passion toward opening her own catering business. She loved her Auburn Tigers, was an avid Nascar fan, and a lover of animals. Irene also loved traveling and went on many trips with her sister/buddy, Jerrie.
Irene is survived by her husband, Bobby Harris; son, Michael Harris (Cyndee); loving sisters, Jerrie Woody and Shirley Mann; sister-in-law, Dean Ingram; grandchildren, Madee, Remee, and Aree; a host of nieces and nephews; and lastly, her furbabies, Milo and Miss B.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Addis and Velma Brown; daughter, Karen Harris; sister, Imalee Farris; niece, Michelle Gornati; nephew, Marty Farris; and mother-in-law Leona Harris
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 8, 2017, from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL. The funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 2:00 PM and the interment will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South, after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shelby County Humane Society (www.shelbyhumane.org) or the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (www.gbhs.org).
