Inez Norton

February 5, 1928 — July 15, 2022

Inez Hill Norton, age 94 of Hoover, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home, July 15, 2022. Inez was born February 5, 1928, in Guntersville, Alabama. After graduating from Guntersville High School, as the valedictorian of her senior class, she married the love of her life, Oliver Norton, in 1946. They were faithfully married to each other for 71 years until Oliver’s passing in 2018. While Oliver was attending The University of Alabama, Inez worked as the administrative assistant for the Dean of Education. Upon Oliver’s graduation from the University of Alabama, Inez became the loving mother of three children that she adored and invested her entire life in. Inez was one of the wittiest, loving, funny and creative people you have ever known. She was an accomplished artist, seamstress and flower gardener. She loved spending time making other people happy by gifting them with her very creative dried flower arrangements, beautiful Christmas ornaments, or some special craft or decoration she had made. Driven by her unending Christian faith, Inez faithfully served as a member of Lakeside Baptist Church for over 60 years. At the heart and soul of Inez, was her love for six grandchildren and five great grandchildren to whom she became known as “Mimi”. Mimi thrilled her family with regular Sunday lunch gatherings, usually topped off with her famous homemade Banana ice cream. Inez was predeceased by her husband Oliver W. Norton, her parents Lee and Lila Hill, her brothers Jack and Charles Hill, and her sister Billie Thompson. She is survived by her children, Phyllis DePiano (Neal), Keith Norton (Connie) and Janice Ritter (Allen). She is also survived by her pride and joy which were her six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank her caregivers Courtney and Debbie for lovingly serving her for three years. In addition, a special thanks to Mali, NeeNee and KeeKee, for loving and helping her over the last five months as well as the Hoover Fire Department Paramedics Unit for always being there when needed. Inez will be honored by a private family interment service, at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, in Hoover, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family request that a donation be made to:

The University of Alabama, Inez Norton Memorial Fund, Box 870101, Tuscaloosa, AL 35486.
