Ida Joyce Speed

Joyce Speed of Hoover, Alabama was born on May 14, 1936, in Collins, Mississippi. She went to Heaven on July 14, 2024. Joyce was 88 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Speed. She is survived by her beloved family including her children Margaret Battle (John), Laura Curtis (Joe), Kendall Speed (Kim); her nine grandchildren Lauren Yancey (John), Sam Battle (Whitney), Kyndal Saunders (Andrew), Kelsey Curtis (Fiancé Jim), Joseph Curtis (Anne Catharine), Keylan Speed, Lake Speed (Fiancé Jules), Dawson Speed, and Alayna Speed; and her eight great grandchildren.

Mrs. Speed grew up in Collins, Mississippi, where she met and married her husband Larry in 1957. She spent her life working with, loving on, and investing in children. In Collins, she worked as a bookkeeper at the local high school. After moving to Birmingham with her husband and raising her three children, she worked in the preschool program at All Saints Episcopal Preschool for many years. She spent all of her time striving to be an example of God's love for all that she met, but especially for her family. "Maw Maw" was determined to make sure her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all who came into her presence were loved, prayed over, fed well, and encouraged.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 10:00 with the service at 11:00 followed by the graveside committal at the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens at 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, Al. 35244.
