Horace Cooke, Jr

Mr. Horace Lindsay Cooke, Jr., age 96, was born in Birmingham, AL, June 28, 1918. He graduated from Georgia Military Academy where he was captain of the State Champion track team, and first place winner of pole vault event, 1936 & 1937. He was honored as a first place winner of Randolph Hearst National Military Rifle Team. He attended Auburn University and established a freshman pole vault record.
He was an active member of Sigma Chi fraternity, and served as an officer.
He became Assistant Controller for Ingalls Iron Works for a proud twenty years and later Manager of Credit for Brown Moulding Co. for another 20 years.
As a member of Holy Apostles Episcopal Church he served as a Lay Minister and Lay Reader.
His contribution to his family was his honor, his fidelity, his integrity, love, and humor.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Dorothy Galloway Cooke, son Charles Lindsay Cooke (Pat), daughter, Marqueritte Scott Cooke, granddaughters, Doran Cooke Helton, Lindsay Cooke Johnson, Carrie Cooke Raab, and great grandchildren, Carlyn Harris, Charlestan Helton, Emma Clare Johnson, Reed Johnson, Bishop Johnson, Cameron Raab and Preston Raab.
A memorial service will be announced at a later time.
The family request any memorials be made to Holy Apostles Episcopal Church.
